A Message from Herb Weisser

When I was 9 years old, my father took me on my first mountain climb.  I was very nervous because I didn’t know what to expect.  I didn’t know north from south, I just knew the direction we were going to go – UP.  The next morning, after a mostly sleepless night, we started our climb, and eventually made it to the top after nearly 10 hours.  While I felt a sense of pride at what I had accomplished, I then realized that we still had to get back down the mountain.  forest path

Going down the mountain was harder than going up. At least on the way up, I knew where the summit was, but our goal on the way back down was to make it to the car, which was somewhere in the far off distance, beyond the base of the mountain.  Looking down from the top of the mountain,  this goal seemed as elusive as the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Without my dad’s knowledge and experience, I would have never found my way home.

In many ways, going through a divorce is like climbing a mountain – it is always best to have an experienced guide.  There are different routes to take in a divorce, such as collaborative practice, mediation, or litigation, but which one you choose will impact your time, energy and resources.

Making sure the client understands the various options available is an important aspect of what I offer in my initial consultations.  It is important to remember that depending on the circumstances, the goal of a divorce is not always just to get divorced. There can be a number of factors to consider: protecting the best interests of children, parenting after the divorce, analyzing the financial aspects and planning for the future are all part of the divorce process – finding a way to not only “make it to the summit”, but to make it back after a long journey.

An experienced guide saves time, energy and resources, because he knows what you need to “make it off the mountain safely” and get on with life.   Let Weisser Family Law be your guide through the family law process and on to your new beginning.
